presenting the oaktree’s partnership with sc afterschool alliance

Who’s The Mott Foundation and what do they do?

The Oaktree today spoke about the:
Challenges of a business owner in South Carolina, especially in rural areas

Today’s meeting was hosted by  SC Afterschool Alliance, with representatives from The Mott Foundation,  The governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff, and The Original Foundation, with many others being present, and opened by Councilman Ed McDowell.

It became very clear that the rural schools are struggling to keep a high standard, and that there’s a great need for the Afterschool Alliance.

There are three things that are needed in order for our students to evolve to a level that our corporation needs them to be:

  1. Inspirational teachers and school staff
  2. A supportive community full of raw models
  3.  A safe environment
Corporations have a big role to fill, we can act as raw models and inspirational teachers, if we do, the students will be more trained, more interested in doing good ans last, but not least, they will be inspired to work. It was also clear that the link between schools and corporations can be better, here SC Afterschool most likely is a great glue between the two groups.
Using SC Afterschool Alliance in the educational model is a great way to engage with the kids early, support them so they are able to get the best training for them, and for the kids to have a chance to feel important through a close relationship with companies staff.

Looking at international companies, like The Oaktree, SC Afterschool could be a part of the recruiting new companies since we know that they look at the quality of the state’s school.

The Mott Foundationย

Who We Are

We envision a world in which each individualโ€™s quality of life is connected to the well-being of the community, both locally and globally.

What we do

We fund efforts to expand learning opportunities and supports for children, particularly those from lowโ€‘ and moderate-income communities.

The hours before and after school โ€” and during the summer months โ€” provide opportunities for children and youth to engage in learning, and the space for the kinds of activities that encourage curiosity, creativity and confidence.
