The Oaktree history
The Oaktree’s journey is a testament to innovation, sustainability, and a steadfast commitment to addressing environmental challenges through advanced technology and responsible resource utilization.
2024: Leading the Charge Against PFAS
In response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) new standards requiring all drinking water plants to measure per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) levels within three years, The Oaktree has proactively educated wastewater operators and managers on our PFAS destruction processes. Our expertise has positioned us at the forefront of projects aimed at eliminating PFAS, reducing hazardous toxins, generating carbon-negative power, and creating local employment opportunities.
2023: Innovating Sustainable Algae Cultivation
Facing challenges in sourcing domestic glass tubes for algae and bacteria farming, The Oaktree chose to uphold our sustainability principles by avoiding overseas suppliers. We initiated the development of ‘Glass Saber,’ procuring high-quality glass from Europe to support our eco-friendly algae cultivation systems.
2022: Establishing The Oaktree and Factibox
With a vision to create a scalable platform promoting sustainability and responsible resource utilization, we founded The Oaktree alongside Factibox, a container-in-a-box concept. Committed to continuous improvement, we adopted Industry 4.0 standards to enhance operational processes and quality. We appointed a project leader to spearhead procurement and concept development, laying the foundation for our innovative solutions.
2021: Scaling Pyrolysis Research and Founding Technology Companies
Expanding our pyrolysis research to an industrial scale, we aimed to supply biochar to the agricultural market and discovered significant energy generation potential. This led to the development of a zero-waste solution based on Industry 4.0 standards, emphasizing circularity. We established Qlinio, Reagrio, and Algistor as technology companies, securing demonstration grants from the South Carolina Research Authority (SCRA) for Reagrio and Algistor. These grants validated our unique solutions, and with Waldron winning the procurement process, we commenced concept design development in December.
2020: Uniting for Environmental Solutions
Five senior entrepreneurs united to address soil erosion and declining nutrient density in agricultural yields, consequences of modern farming practices. Recognizing the broader environmental impacts, including the Sargassum crisis in the Caribbean, they laid the groundwork for what would become The Oaktree, dedicated to pioneering sustainable industrial solutions.
Through each phase of our history, The Oaktree has demonstrated resilience, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to creating a sustainable and prosperous future for all.
